What is a 3D iTero Scan and how does it work?
The 3D iTero Scanner is one of a new breed of technology that is revolutionising dentistry.
These types of advanced intra-oral scanners work by capturing thousands of pictures of the inside of your mouth, and then assembling them into an incredibly accurate 3D model of your mouth, teeth and gums.
This allows your dentist or hygienist to fully assess and inspect every aspect of your condition, and accurately plan out the stages of your treatment.
At Asiri we will use a specially-adapted, hygienic scanner called a ‘wand’ to take thousands of pictures.
The scanner uses medical-grade low-radiation lasers to take up to 20 pictures a second of your teeth. Our trained staff gradually moves and rotates it to be sure to get a complete scan of your whole mouth.
As we do this, gradually a 3D model of the inside of your mouth will emerge on the iTero screen. Usually this whole process takes less than 10 minutes.
What are the benefits?
There are a great benefits of using 3D dental scanning technology like iTero. The first one is that it eliminates the need to stuff a big wad of funny-feeling bad-tasting gloop in your mouth to take an impression. It’s quicker, it’s cleaner, and it’s far more accurate than traditional impressions. This means less time in the chair, and will result in a much more accurate diagnosis and overall treatment.
Scanning can identify key potential issues that could be missed by traditional impressions trays before they occur. The second major benefit (although there are many more), is that iTero scanning allows you to see the effects of a treatment before you have it.
